Boys Varsity Football · Tigers fall on Senior Night, turn focus to playoffs

Macon-Livingston copy

Macon County’s efforts at the first region title since 2003 fell short on Friday evening, as visiting Livingston Academy handed the Tigers a 24-14 loss in the regular season finale at Pat Parker Field.

The Tigers never led, but a 30-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Seth Carlisle to classmate Michael Caery late in the first half trimmed Livingston’s lead to 10-7 at halftime.

Carlisle rushed for 115 yards on 19 carries and threw for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Ethan Jenkins caught a 33-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Carver was the Tigers’ leading tackler on defense with seven stops, while Caery had six. Four players – Jacob Stoops, Riley Phillips, Chase Whittemore and Trent Boles – each had five, and Stoops had the Tigers’ lone sack.

The Tigers fell to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in Region 3-4A play with the loss, while Livingston Academy improved to 8-2 overall and finished 4-0 in region action. Macon County opens the Class 4A playoffs at home next week, hosting Spring Hill.

Seth Carlisle connected with Chris Oliver for a 9-yard touchdown pass with six seconds to play for the tying score.

Carlisle completed 10-of-24 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns, and finished with 136 rushing yards on 26 carries.

Noah Likens eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the second consecutive game, picking up 101 yards on 19 carries. Oliver had 56 yards and a touchdown on three receptions, while Likens had two catches for 51 yards and Joseph Medrano caught one pass for 47 yards.

The Tigers host Livingston Academy in the regular season finale on Friday, with the winner claiming the Region 3-4A title.

Boys Varsity Football · Tenth-ranked Tigers rout DeKalb County

Macon-DeKalb game photo

Macon County and DeKalb County combined for more than 900 total yards in Friday’s Region 3-4A tilt, but the 10th-ranked Tigers ran away with a 62-34 victory to clinch a home playoff game in Class 4A.

Junior Noah Likens had a career-best 174 rushing yards on 21 carries, including touchdown runs of two and 43 yards. Senior quarterback Seth Carlisle added 141 rushing yards on 10 carries, scoring on runs of 53 and 59 yards. The Tigers (7-1 overall, 3-0 in Region 3-4A) rushed for 332 yards as a team.

Carlisle added 271 passing yards, completing 12-of-22 passes and throwing for four touchdowns.

Curtis Oliver caught two of those touchdown passes, scoring from five and 28 yards away. Oliver also returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown, as the Tigers scored defensively for the second consecutive week. The Tiger defense also added a safety in back-to-back weeks when DeKalb County fell on a fumble in its own end zone.

Ethan Jenkins caught three passes for 107 yards and a 78-yard touchdown, while Chris Oliver caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Carlisle and finished with three catches for 94 yards.

The Tigers conclude their three-game road stretch Friday at Upperman in a non-region contest.
